In Microsoft's Work Trend Index study of early Copilot users, participants completed a set of common knowledge-work tasks (searching for information, writing and summarizing) 29 percent faster than a control group, with no measurable drop in accuracy. Separately, Copilot users in Microsoft's Early Access Program reported an average time savings of 14 minutes per day, or roughly 1.2 hours per week.

According to the company, its team has moved to broad daily use of AI tools across writing, coding and reporting tasks since deploying Copilot internally. Shukla has described the shift as adding five to 10 hours of productivity back to his own work week.
